This Day In Science Nov. 20, 1979 – First Artificial Blood Transfusion

On November 20th, 1979 the first artificial blood transfusion was given to a patient at the University of Minnesota Hospital. The patient, a Jehovah’s Witness, had refused a transfusion of real blood due to their religious convictions.
