Scientific Background | Dorsomorphin is a potent, selective, and reversible inhibitor of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), acting in an ATP-competitive manner. It also selectively inhibits bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signaling. In neuroscience, Dorsomorphin is used to study the role of AMPK in neuronal energy metabolism, autophagy, and cell survival. AMPK dysregulation is implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, where impaired energy homeostasis contributes to neuronal dysfunction. Additionally, BMP signaling influences neural development and neuroinflammation. Dorsomorphin is a valuable tool for dissecting the interplay between metabolic stress, neurogenesis, and neurodegeneration. |
