Scientific Background Lapatinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. Specifically, it interrupts the ErbB/neu and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathways. It is an antineoplastic agent used in breast cancer research. In solid tumor cells, Lapatinib binds to the ATP-binding pocket of the protein kinase domains on EGFR/ErbB, preventing self-phosphorylation.
