| Scientific Background |
Amyloid Beta Peptide 1‑40 (Aβ40) is one of the primary proteolytic products of the amyloid precursor protein (APP), generated through sequential β‑ and γ‑secretase cleavage. As a major soluble isoform of amyloid beta, Aβ40 is produced at higher levels than Aβ42 and plays a central role in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) pathology. Although less aggregation‑prone than Aβ42, Aβ40 contributes significantly to neurodegenerative processes by participating in early oligomer formation, interacting with neuronal membranes, and influencing metal‑dependent oxidative stress pathways that can impair synaptic function and cellular viability. The Aβ42:Aβ40 ratio is an important modulator of aggregation behavior, with Aβ40 capable of altering fibrillation kinetics and influencing toxicity profiles across neuronal and glial populations. Aβ40 is also a major component of cerebral amyloid angiopathy and affects vascular integrity, endothelial function, and neurovascular signaling. Its interactions with glial cells can shape inflammatory responses and modify plaque architecture, thereby impacting disease progression. Synthetic Aβ40 monomers, such as those produced by StressMarq, provide researchers with a consistent and biologically relevant tool for experimental modeling. These monomers appear as a single band at the expected molecular weight on SDS‑PAGE and Western blot, supporting reproducibility in assays investigating aggregation mechanisms, membrane interactions, oxidative stress responses, and therapeutic modulation. By enabling precise control over peptide concentration, purity, and structural state, Aβ40 monomers serve as foundational reagents in AD research—facilitating studies on early pathogenic events, biomarker development, and the evaluation of candidate therapeutics designed to disrupt amyloidogenic pathways. StressMarq's Amyloid Beta Peptide 1-40 Monomers are produced synthetically and presents as a monomeric band at the expected molecular weight (MW) on SDS-PAGE via Coomassie Stain and Western Blot. |
