Scientific Background |
Methylglyoxal (MG) BSA Conjugate is a model advanced glycation end-product (AGE) used to study glycation-induced neurotoxicity. MG is a reactive dicarbonyl compound formed during glycolysis and oxidative stress, and it readily modifies arginine and lysine residues on proteins. In the nervous system, MG accumulation leads to AGE formation, mitochondrial dysfunction, and activation of the receptor for AGEs (RAGE), triggering inflammation and apoptosis. Elevated MG levels are observed in Alzheimer’s disease, diabetic neuropathy, and cognitive decline. The MG-BSA conjugate is widely used in immunoassays to detect anti-AGE antibodies and to model AGE-related neurodegeneration, supporting research into glycation inhibitors and neuroprotective strategies. |
