Scientific Background |
N-Acetylglucosamine (GlcNAc) BSA Glycoconjugate is a powerful molecular probe for studying glycosylation-dependent signaling in the nervous system. GlcNAc is a key monosaccharide involved in N-glycan branching, a process critical for modulating receptor clustering, endocytosis, and immune regulation. In neuroscience, GlcNAc has emerged as a modulator of neuroinflammation, myelination, and neurodegeneration. It crosses the blood-brain barrier and enhances N-glycan branching in lymphocytes and glial cells, suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines and promoting remyelination. In multiple sclerosis (MS), GlcNAc supplementation has been shown to reduce serum neurofilament light chain levels and improve neurological function, highlighting its therapeutic potential. The BSA-conjugated form enables precise detection and quantification of GlcNAc-specific interactions in immunoassays, facilitating biomarker discovery and mechanistic studies in neurodegenerative disease models. |
