Scientific Background D-AP5.Na (D-(-)-2-Amino-5-phosphonopentanoic acid sodium salt) is a selective NMDA receptor antagonist that inhibits glutamate binding at the receptor site. NMDA receptors are critical for synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory, but their overactivation leads to excitotoxicity—a major contributor to neuronal death in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, and ALS. D-AP5.Na is widely used in neuroscience to study NMDA receptor-mediated signaling and to explore neuroprotective strategies by blocking calcium influx and excitotoxic damage.
