| Scientific Background | Antimycin A is a potent inhibitor of mitochondrial electron transport chain (ETC) complex III that disrupts oxidative phosphorylation, reduces ATP production, and increases reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation (). Through the induction of mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress, Antimycin A is widely used to model mechanisms associated with neurodegenerative diseases and other disorders characterized by impaired mitochondrial bioenergetics(2-6). When combined with oligomycin, Antimycin A also induces canonical PINK1-Parkin-dependent mitophagy in Parkin-overexpressing cells, providing a useful tool for studying mitochondrial quality control pathways(5). |
