Neuron Markers

What is a Neuron?

Neurons are the primary signaling cells of the nervous system as they use electrical impulses and chemical signals to transmit information throughout the body. There are hundreds of different types of neurons in the brain and scientists have classified them into groups based on differences in their morphology, function, neurotransmitter expression, polarity and position in the nervous system.

Neuronal markers are widely used in neuroscience research to:

  • Distinguish neurons from other cells
  • Identify the type of neuron
  • Show a neuron’s function
  • Connect synaptic partners

Furthermore, these markers are very effective diagnostic tools in neurodegenerative diseases. Neuronal markers can be categorized based on which part of the neuron they identify.

Types of neuronal markers include:

  • Axon markers
  • Cytoplasmic markers
  • Membrane markers
  • Neural stem cell markers

Neuronal markers research requires a great diversity of life science products. We are dedicated to developing cutting edge research products to aid in the study of neuronal markers, including monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies.
